You will notice that one of the tasks on the Home Learning grid is to practice their number fluency goal.
Our focus is on progress and confidence NOT on timed tests!
Here is an explanation of the process…
How we choose our goals?
For the past few weeks we have been testing ourselves on our basic number facts. We have started with addition and focus on each individual facts from + 1, +2, +3 …until +12.
We have graphed our results for how many simple sums we can complete in 1 minute. We also gave ourselves a confidence score (the smiley face)
We chose to set ourselves goals of number facts that we don’t feel confident in. We write these on our basketballs on the wall in the classroom.
How we practice our goals?
Each day we will be completing a very quick 5 minute activity to help us get more fluent in our facts.
These include
-flash cards
-Matching cards
– placemats
– maths magician (computer program)
-blackboards and chalk
We rotate through these activities!
How do we achieve our goals?
In the activities rotation is a Check in. During this time, the children work with the teacher and time themselves for 1 min. We will be looking to see if they have made progress from their first attempt and are feeling more confident in that number fact.
We celebrate each goal achieved by sticking a little white basketball on the goals wall and shooting some real goals in the mini basketball ring! The whole class applauses!
We pick a new goal and start all over again!
