This is a brief update to let you know what is happening in Week 4 in Room 14.
Inquiry
What are goals and how can I set them?
We will be looking at how we can set ourselves some behaviour, academic and expert learner goals which will be aiming to achieve throughout the year. We will be using the SMART goals model. See picture below
It is important for the children to have a clear understanding of their own learning goals and be able to talk about HOW they are going to make these improvements.
We will be putting our hopes, dreams and goals inside a ‘time capsule’ and hiding these to open at the end of the year. I wonder how many goals will be achieved? Lots I hope!
Spelling
This week’s sound is: ee ea e_e
Each day the students will be completing an activity based around these words.
Grammar will focus on simple tense, past, present and future.
Writing
We are focusing on Narrative writing and what makes a good story. The first attempts last week were a great start!
Maths
We will be studying ourselves and entering some data and putting it in our Time Capsules. I wonder how much we will grow in a year?
We will begin a Week of Inspirational Maths developed by Stanford University which focuses on building a growth mindset and becoming creative mathematicians. We will provide more info on this as we study each key idea.
Expert Learner
We have looked at all of the CLG expert learner attributes and will now be looking at the concept of Self-Regulation and the skill of ‘switching’ modes. Eg. how do we behave in the playground compared to a doctor’s waiting room etc.
It’s going to be a busy week.
P.S Mrs Speechley will be in the classroom for 2 days this week as Tamra will be at a conference.
