Lighting Up the Arts
The Year 3 students will be spending the whole of Thursday at a dress rehearsal at the Adelaide Town Hall. Please pack them plenty of lunch and snacks as it is a long day. We will be leaving school at 9:15am.
Please read the paper note (A5 blue paper) that will be sent home Monday very clearly. Your child will need to be dropped of in a specific location at 6:20pm on Thursday night. I cannot stress enough the importance of physically signing your child in and out with me on the night!!!! It is a crazy busy time and we don’t want any lost children.
The Year 2 students will be spending the day in either Room 13 or 15 following the normal learning program with Mrs O’Connell (15) or Mrs Fitzpatrick (13). It will be their turn in 2 years time!
Mrs O’Connell (Room 15) – Ella, Erin,Elliot, Jack, Joel, Logan, Zak R
Mrs Fitzpatrick (Room 13) – Emma, Harry, Lachlan, Mali, Milla, Jasmine, Rhys, Zak F
French Knitting
Did you know that the World Record for french knitting (tom boys) is 31.42 km!!! With LUTA and swimming week coming up, we have a lot of waiting time so why not develop our fine motor skills with some knitting! Thanks to everyone who sent along some wool…keep sending it in!
We will be incorporating some data collection, measurement and addition learning over the next 2 weeks to help build our maths skills. They can continue at home as long as they keep track of their measurements and time spent on it.
Any ideas what we can create with our metres and metres of knitting.
Maths – Reading a clock (Time)
We are going to be attempting the difficult concept of reading an analogue clock over the next 2 weeks. We will begin by focusing on just the hour hand and then adding the minute hand once we have mastered that. This will be done by using number lines and making the connection that a clock is simply a number line curled into a circle.
Our problem solving will focus on problems such as ‘I went to a party at 1:30pm and left at 3:00pm. How long was the party?’ Try asking your child some of these type questions during your normal routine.
Do you have an analogue clock in your house on which your child can practice?
History
Please read the blog post sent on Friday explaining the homework task of preparing for an oral presentation in Week 10. We need the research component completed by Monday of Week 9 so we can learn together about writing a speech.
I understand that it is often difficult to find the time for tasks such as these in our busy lives (yes I am a parent too!) but trying to research with a ratio of 28:1 in the class often ends up with some inaccurate information and lots of confused kids with completely wrong facts and ideas.
Thank you for your help and supporting your own child’s learning…maybe setting up a ‘study date’ instead of a play date might motivate some reluctant homework avoiders!!!
